Statement of Accountability
The Board and Staff of Fertile Ground Conservancy recognize and acknowledge the ongoing harm and trauma caused by settler colonialism, displacement, and genocide to the Indigenous peoples who have inhabited these lands since time immemorial. We acknowledge that the lands in which we work were stolen from Indigenous peoples through a long history of colonialism and dispossession, and that the consequences of this ongoing colonization are still felt today.
We also acknowledge the ongoing effects of environmental racism and injustice on Indigenous peoples, people of color, and other marginalized communities, and commit to addressing these issues through our work.
We recognize that this statement is just one small step towards the decolonization of our organization and our work, and that we have much to learn and do in order to truly be accountable to Indigenous peoples and communities. We commit to an ongoing process of reflection, learning, and action towards a just and equitable future for all.
